We love to pamper the stand-up men in our lives, every once in a while. That’s why the Farm Star Living team wants to share three valuable health tips in honor of Men’s Health Month and the men we want for the long haul. Gentlemen, live long and prosper (with these valuable tips)!

Healthy Fats

Whether your six-pack has been compared to Chris Hemsworth’s or your dad bod brings all the ladies ‘to the yard,’ a healthy fat can only work in your favor:
  1. Salmon: Ever thought about swapping that steak for a piece of fish? Here is why – not only is salmon a lean protein, but it also consists of omega 3 fatty acids that contribute to a healthy heart.
  2. Avocados: Known to be particularly rich in healthy monounsaturated fats, eating this versatile fruit can contribute to cardiovascular health. They are perfect for breakfast toast or easily tossed on a salad. Check out one of favorite ways to eat avocados HERE!
  3. Olive Oil: Apart from its beneficial fatty acids, it contains modest amounts of Vitamins E and K and is protective against heart disease. The monounsaturated fats in extra virgin olive oil make it a healthy cooking alternative to butter.
  4. Nuts: Nuts such as pecans and almonds not only contain those healthy omega 3 fatty acids, but they also help lower cholesterol levels.

Exercise

You don’t need to get swole to get the sufficient amounts of exercise vital to a healthy cardiovascular system:
  1. Aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise a day whether it's walking, jogging, or an exercise class. Getting your heart pumping will help improve circulation. Lifting weights or getting your heart rate up can help expand your blood vessels contributing to the transportation of oxygen and overall cardiovascular health.
  2. Easy ways to increase your heart rate include going for a walk, riding a bike, or climbing stairs. If you don't have 30 minutes, break it up into 10 or 15 minute time increments!
  3. Fun ways to get your 30 minutes in may include activities such as swimming, paddle boarding, or indoor rock climbing.

Fiber

Eating more fresh fruits and vegetables is the best way to ensure you are getting enough fiber in your diet. Fiber is for all, but for those on-the-go, this essential nutrient is essential to having a complete heart-healthy diet.
  1. Prunes: Prunes, otherwise known as dried plums, are the perfect snack to increase your fiber intake. Due to their high fiber content, they aid in digestion and lower blood pressure. Check out our favorite SunSweet Snack!
  2. Raisins: Although small, raisins are packed with rich fiber, vitamins, and minerals. They make the perfect salad topping or can be easily mixed into your morning oatmeal.
  3. Beans: Not only are beans a great source of protein, but they are high in minerals and fiber. They also have the ability to improve your blood cholesterol.
Happy Father’s Day and a big shout-out to all the men who lead by example!
